What this is

This is a safe place for women to tell their stories anonymously. Each story helps another woman see that she is believed and that she is not the only one.

With the writer’s permission, stories are added to our story library, where anyone can read them and search by topic or keyword.

How it works

  1. 1 Write your story. A few sentences or a few pages. Type it here or upload a file. Leaving your email is optional.
  2. 2 Choose what happens to it. Let us share it anonymously in the library, or keep it private so only we read it.
  3. 3 We read it with care. Within a week, we read your story and remove names and details that could identify you or anyone else.
  4. 4 You approve it. Then it’s shared. If you leave your email, we send you the edited version to approve first. Then it joins the library.

Who reads your story

We’re a wife and husband, married for 22 years and raising five children: two daughters and three sons, ages 5 to 17.

She has a degree in psychology and family studies. He works for a nonprofit that serves women and children affected by domestic and sexual violence in six countries around the world.

Between raising our girls and seeing this work up close, we know how much it matters for a woman to be believed. So we read every story ourselves, slowly and with care, as if it came from someone we love.

Read their stories

Every story here was shared anonymously and with permission. Some describe abuse and violence, so please read at your own pace.

    Share your story

Please don’t include full names or identifying details of yourself or others. Take breaks if you need to. There’s no wrong way to tell it.

    Not sure where to start?

You could answer one of these. A few sentences is enough.

    • What happened, in whatever words feel right?
    • What do you wish someone had said to you?
    • Who believed you, or who didn’t?
    • What has helped you, even a little?
Or upload a file (optional) .txt, .doc, or .pdf. For the most privacy, paste your story instead. Word and PDF files can hold hidden details, like the name saved on your computer.
    Can we share your story?

    Our privacy promise

    • Your story is anonymous. We don’t ask for your name, and we never try to find out who you are or where you wrote from. Your story reaches us by email through a form service.
    • You decide if it’s shared. Your story is only added to the library if you say yes. If you leave your email, you approve the final version first. You can ask us to take it down at any time by emailing iamjanedoestories@gmail.com.
    • Your email stays private. If you leave one, we use it only to follow up with you. It is never published, shared, or sold.
    • Every story is reviewed first. We read each story before anything is shared, and remove details that could identify you or anyone else.
